What this site is, where its numbers come from, and what you may do with them.

Disclaimer

Janadesh is an independent, public-interest project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Election Commission of India, any political party, or any government body.

The underlying data spans more than six decades and includes records compiled and harmonised from historical statistical reports, along with a set of 2024 Lok Sabha results recovered from archived captures of a since-withdrawn Election Commission site. Errors and gaps are possible across a dataset this size and this old — the known ones are listed on the methodology & gaps page, and a correction is made by fixing the load script that produced the number, not by editing a database row.

Where a figure here disagrees with the Election Commission’s own publications, the Commission is right.

License

Election results published on this site are drawn from public records of the Election Commission of India and from the Trivedi Centre for Political Data’s Lok Dhaba dataset. The underlying facts — who contested a seat, who won it, how many votes were cast — are not subject to copyright.

Personal & research use

Free to read, cite, and reference for personal use, journalism, and academic research.

Building on the data

The JSON API that backs this site needs no key, has no rate limit, and is CORS-open — free to query from your own page, script, or product, commercial ones included, subject to the terms the Election Commission and TCPD themselves place on their data.

Attribution

Credit the data to its sources — the Election Commission of India and TCPD Lok Dhaba — not to Janadesh. If you also link to where you read it, link the specific page (a constituency, an election, a candidate) rather than the homepage, so a reader can check the number themselves.

No warranty

This site is provided as-is, without warranty of completeness or accuracy. See methodology & gaps for what is known to be missing, and treat it as a companion to the Commission’s own publications, not a replacement for them.
